Thank You SPCAI
Inner Mongolia, China
When Ruiyun began construction for her remote shelter she only had 50 dogs. In one year that number jumped to over 260. Most of them were rescued from the dog meat trade. WOA sponsored the rescue of 69 of those dogs from the meat trade.
She still needed to complete two additional kennels to house the new dogs in the impending frigid winter of Inner Mongolia. 120 of them were living outside. Winter temperatures can get to -50F. The situation was dire, indeed.
Built by friends.
Construction funds, provided by WOA Foundation, to finish the wall, the existing shelters, windows, doors, provide floors where there was once only dirt, and get heaters were soon spent quickly. There were still dogs, many WOA Foundation sponsored rescues from the dog meat trade, basically living outside without much shelter and most of the project funds were already spent.
A friend in need...
Ruiyun depends on the donations from her followers on Chinese social media to meet her monthly costs to feed and care for her rescues. They are small donations from individual animal lovers which doesn’t leave any extra funds for needs like construction. WOA Foundation needed help to finish all the shelters before winter arrived and quickly. Temperatures began to dip in September.
A friend indeed...
SPCAI stepped in at the very moment when real worry set in. The winter is coming and cool nights start to creep in around early September in this northernmost province of China. Not to mention, construction becomes impossible when the ground freezes in this tundra-like area.
Thank you SPCAI for offering your help when it was most needed. You made it possible for these dogs to not only survive, but enjoy some comfort in the coming winter months.
