Join Us to End the Dog Crisis in China.

Yoga Stops Yulin

That time of year has arrived once again, that time of year when rescue groups need to be extra on their guard. This month was the start of the infamous Yulin Dog Meat Festival.

The Yulin Dog Meat Festival is a 10-day festival where thousands of dogs and cats are slaughtered and their meat is consumed.

This practice is not illegal in China, as there are currently no animal welfare laws in place to protect these animals. Many of these animals are people’s pets who have been stolen, abandoned or in some cases sold to this industry by their owners.

In much of the Western world, it is unfathomable that dogs are treated in this way. But in China, the attitudes are different.

Many people still consider dogs as tools, who, once they have exhausted their use, can be thrown in the trash or sold for their parts.

Thankfully there are increasingly more animal activists in China who work around the clock to try and save these beautiful animals. They put themselves in danger to intercept a lot of the trucks taking dogs to the slaughterhouse, to save these animals and give them a new home where they’re safe, loved and protected.

We're so grateful to be a part of this community, working alongside these rescuers. In particular, we’re very proud to be supporting a new initiative called Yoga Stops Yulin, a fundraising campaign organised by Jade Ada (From the Stop Yulin podcast) directly aimed at supporting victims of Yulin and victims of the dog meat trade.

Jade has enlisted the help of participating yoga studios to pledge the proceeds of one class to help rescue and rehabilitate dog meat trade victims.

Here at WOA, we will be using our resources and our connections to sign up yoga studios in first-tier Chinese cities, Beijing and Shanghai.

Classes will also be preceded by a segment hosted by a real-life adopter and their dog meat trade survivor, sharing their story and helping raise awareness about the cause and the work that we, and so many of our peers, are undertaking in China.

If you're interested in participating in this event, check out the Yoga Stops Yulin website here.

If you'd like to donate directly to the cause, visit our dedicated donation page on the WOA website.

Yulin must be stopped. But without legislation and government assistance, we need the help of the collective, of our supporters, of angels all over the world who love animals fiercely enough to fight for them.

Thank you Jade, and thank you to everyone who continues to fight for the rights of companion animals in China, SE Asia and all over the world - day in and day out.

You are our hope for a kinder, safer world for animals everywhere.
