She sold the only valuable things she owned to save the dogs.

There was zero support from the public when Wuyi started, so she had to rely on her own money. She had used her pension to fund the operation, but there was just too many dogs. She had to sell two privately- owned apartments which are rare and precious in China, one by one, to keep going.

She had to move more than 22 times in 22 years!

That’s more often than once a year. That’s because her family kept growing, neighbors complained, or the government wanted to rebuild the area. With each move, Wuyi has had to face the challenge of finding a new place and coming up with the funds for moving and building a new sanctuary.

Hope is on the horizon. Wuyi got some help!

It was in 1997 when Wuyi started to rescue homeless dogs, her son, Liu was only 13 years old at the time. Today, Liu, 35 years old, and his childhood friend, Han, have joined to help. With 580 dogs, and 40 cats, life can be complicated. Wuyi can focus on the day to day operation of the sanctuary, with the two young men’s help.
